Globally proven and preferred technology of Dust Control in bulk material handling

The ADS™ System is the advanced version of the Dry Fog based Dust Suppression System which has been the war horse for dust control in bulk material handing plants since the mid 70’s. With the environmental and work zone personal exposure norms becoming stricter the Dry Fog Technology has gained relevance and is preferred over other methods of dust control, like never before.

Approved by USEPA as Best Demonstrated Technology for Coal

With after almost three decades of proving success, and after taking inputs from the industry, on 8th October 2009, US EPA accorded the ‘fogging’ systems (implying Dry Fog Technology through various reference documents) a Best Demonstrated Technology (BDT) status for coal and lignite handling. As such, the BDT for bituminous and sub bituminous lignite coals consists of four technologies – fabric filters, passive enclosure containment systems (PECS), fogging systems and wet extraction scrubbers.

Generates versatile fog – can stand up to dusty displaced air across all BMH applications

The quantum and velocity of displaced air generated depends on the application and the variables involved i.e. material transfer rate and the height of fall. It is this displaced air which needs to be tackled which carries the dust, for which it is necessary to generate a versatile fog – like either a feather or a sledgehammer which can stand up to scrub the displaced air generated to effectively agglomerate the dust in the displaced air.

Generates ‘dense dry fog’ from 0 – 30 microns

In meteorological terms, lower visibility is defined as fog, and higher visibility is defined as mist. In terms of droplet size, fog is in the range of 0 – 30 microns. At this range, the fog generated is fine and also dry, as the droplet size are too small to burst. The fog generated by the ADS™ System is a dense one to enable effective agglomeration with like sized dust particles and makes it grow bigger to fall back to the material by gravity. The Dry Fog is generated only through dual fluid sonic nozzles, generically known as the compressed air driven acoustic oscillator nozzle, and not just any nozzle which atomizes water with compressed air.

Helps creating the safest working environment through control of Respirable dust in the PM 10 range and below

With the combined philosophy of containment and generation of dense dry fog (0 – 30 microns) and it’s effectiveness in withstanding displaced air generated across the spectrum of BMH applications, the ADS™ Dry Fog System effectively addresses the Respirable Dust in the range of 10 microns and below i.e. PM 10 range, which hugely helps in reducing the personal exposure to dust and making the working environment the safest in comparison to any other dust control technology in bulk material handling.

Only solution for high volume surge load application to control respirable dust

High Volume-Surge Load-Large applications are those large applications like Wagon Tipplers, Track Hoppers, Dump Hoppers, Ship Unloaders which generate a high volume of dust at very high velocities across a large area, which makes it very difficult to control the dust generated, and especially the Respirable Dust by traditional dust control systems. The ADS™ Dry Fog Systems with the application of dual fluid sonic nozzles along with customized containment arrangements is the only solution for such applications.

Lower Capital Investment and space compared to Dust Extraction Systems

The ADS™ Dry Fog System costs half the investment amount of the traditional Bag Filters with Centrifugal Fans and the Ductwork, and occupies a fraction of the space.

Optimum energy consumption and utilization for effective control of respirable dust

With the ADS™ Dry Fog System being the most effective performing technology to control respirable dust across all BMH applications compared to all other Best Demonstrated Technologies (BDT) as per the USEPA, the energy consumed by way of utilization of compressed air to generate the fog is most well utilized.

Energy savings by retrofitting dust extraction systems

Retrofitting traditional dust extraction systems with the ADS™ Dry Fog System immensely reduces energy consumption considering the power consumed for handling large volume of suction air for dust filtration.

No secondary dust handling hassles

With all the dust generated knocked back at the source, and no suction unlike traditional dust extraction systems, the ADS™ Dry Fog System eliminates the hassles and hazards of handling collected fines.

Minimum water requirement to operate the system

The water requirement in the ADS™ Dry Fog System to generate fog for control of fugitive emissions all the way to the PM 10 range and below is the barest minimum in comparison to the traditional wet dust suppression  systems.

Zero wastage of water for operation of the system

All the water required to generate fog in the ADS™ Dry Fog System is fully utilized, unlike other systems which requires RO water which results in wastage of water of 3 – 4 litres for every 1 litre of RO water generated.

Minimum moisture addition of appx 0.05% - 0.1% of the material handled

With the fine, dense and dry fog generated and with the fog evaporation also constantly happening the moisture addition to the handled is next to negligible, as basically the fog generated by ADS™ Dry Fog System does not wet the material, but only works upon the dust generated, by way of agglomerating the fine fog droplets with like sized dust particles.

Easy and friendly maintenance – hassle free nozzle inspection

The ADS™ Dry Fog System has a unique feature of the possibility of inspecting every nozzle while in operation for maintenance and even replacement, if necessary. After all, with the fog exposed to the brunt of the dust generated nozzle, it is essential to check the condition of the nozzle and the quality of fog it is generating, and be able to conduct maintenance exercise in an online condition. Refer ADS Advantages for more details.

Eliminates flooding at the hopper bottom

To solve one problem, another one is created, which is the case with Plain Water Dust Suppression Systems causing flooding problems at the bottom of the hopper and a real operational hassle. All of such issues are totally eliminated with the ADS™ Dry Fog System, making the hopper bottom area safe and workable.

Reduces material loss substantially through uncontrolled fugitive emissions

The fact that the ADS™ Dry Fog System is the best technology to control Respirable Dust over any other methods of dust control in bulk material handling plants, it also is able to help in reducing loss of material through emissions across all applications.
