Selection of Filtration Technique: Depth or Surface?
While depth filtration has been in vogue since the inception of pulse-jet bag filters through the usage of needlefelt materials, the use of surface filtration with the development of media coatings / constructions since early 2000’s has been a game changer in delivering improved pressure drops and superior emissions. Below is a comparison.

Depth filtration occurs as a result of the formation of a primary dust cake on the surface of the filter bags and an accumulation of dust particles within the depth of the filter media.

Surface filtration occurs with all particulate collected on the surface of the filter media. This filtering method eliminates the need for a primary dust cake.

Filter Bags
The Filter Bag range is based primarily on Needlefelt Filter Media for pulse jet bag filter applications. The range comprises Filter Bags made from entire Needlefelt family i.e. Polyester, Polypropylene, Homopolymer Acrylic, Nomex, Ryton / Procon, P84, and PTFE, across a variety of Fabric Constructions and Finishes, with the option of either the conventional Depth or the advanced Surface filtration technique to choose.

Harley has it’s own complete in-house laboratory for testing quality at every point from fabric stage to finished product stage, wherein all the required test’s are conducted

While manufacturing the filter bags we take into consideration the time / temperature relationship and gas chemistry. Accordingly, the filter bag are manufactured for optimum pinch (bag-to-cage fit) as tendency for excessive flexing and folding, while undersizing hinders cleaning efficiency and hence bag life.
Antistatic / Conductive Filter Fabrics in Bag Filters…..a grossly ignored area of Safety !
At F. Harley we lay immense stress on this matter as it is very often seen that the subject of Filter Fabrics are not understood even by the very best of engineers in the industry, resulting in the entry of spurious quality of antistatic / conductive filter bags supplied, and accompanied simply by test certificates, without even being aware of the relevant Testing Standards applicable.
